Need to quiet open headers
hello everyone ,
so my car's exhaust pipe broke in half due to rust and scraping . I took it off so I can get around town and what not and the ******* who owned it before me welded just one nut and bolt on to the header so I had to saw my way through it .
anyway , I got the exhaust off and realized how obnoxious my car was with any amount of throttle . long story short , I got pulled over and got a 570$ ticket cause the cop tried to screw me over with whatever he could . obviously .
I have like no money and no fabrication experience what so ever . I need to make my car quiet enough to not attract more attention with the least amount of money spent so what options do I have besides buying a whole new exhaust ? (if any)
I don't care about performance or anything like that , I just need my car quiet for as little amount of money possible .

Get under the car and saw off the flange on the header, since that's plainly worthless now. Go to an auto parts store, from experience Oreilly's might have what you need. Get an adapter to go from the header down to 2", the clamps sized for that adapter, and then buy/order a baffled muffler that will fit under there. You might be able to muffle the car for a little under $100.
You quiet it by fixing it. There's no real way to quiet an open downpipe.
You can buy a brand new header for $70 shipped
http://www.ebay.com/itm/94-97-ACCORD-F22-4-CYL-STAINLESS-CERAMIC-COATED-EXHAUST-HEADER-1-75-INLET-GASKET-/400901019029?hash=item5d57901595&vxp=mtr
which will work just fine.
I had an exhaust shop do a full custom exhaust for ~$200 back in the day (I supplied the muffler though). If you have rust anywhere else along the line it should be pretty simple to have them fix it.
Don't fix something broken by doing something ghetto.

The last time I had an exhaust pipe break, it cost about $85 to get a new pipe welded in, from the cat flange to the exhaust flange.
If you don't have that much money, go to a junk yard and find which piping you need.
This thread exhausts me....
