Default b18c4(gsr) timing question

well i have it running pretty well now
specs
mahle pistons low comp
scat rods stock crank
lightweight flywheel
rpc stage 3 clutch

anyway the problem is im having to run 11degs of ignition advance to get any sort of power out of the thing is this due to the low comp pistons?
my air/fuel are pretty good not the best but good
timing is spot on
all sensors are spot on

the next issue is after the engine has warmed up it starts to make a knocking noise my guess was piston slap or maybe im running to much ignition causing deT.

What do the plugs look like?

What afr exactly?

What compression exactly?

Gonna need a ton more info.

plugs are a little black
the c/r is 9.0 / 81.50mm pistons / forged
afr is 15.5 idle. mid range is anywhere from 14s to high 13s. high load is 12.8/12.6
boost area is not tuned as its currently not turbo
before the engine was rebuilt it was fine since changing the pistons over to these lower cr ones i have had to run extreme amounts of timing other wise it will bog down pretty bad and barely have enough power to move off

You need to recheck your base ignition timing and mechanical timing. Something is definitely not right and it is most likely detonation. Piston slap is there when cold and depending on the pistons and PTW clearance it goes away when warm.

Why don't you actually give us some information to help you like what EMS you are using and any other relevant information?

im using neptune rtp with a demon 2 on a p06 converted to a p28
injectors are nikki 520cc @3bar and 92ms of lag @14volts
stock dizzy set to 16 degrees
brand new ngk spark plugs Bkr7e's
works engineering cam gears on b16a2 cams (ran fine before engine rebuild)
gates racing timing belt
rebuilt head with new vavle stem seals and relapped vavles/seats and other misc seals/ crush washers
12psi of boost on a 50trim
3bar gm map sensor on motec settings in neptune (according to boost gauge its spot on) even with the stock map sensor i have to run stupid amounts of timing
venom inlet manifold

as a quick fix i have the timing advancement set in the ect settings so i dont have to set the base table back down if there is an issue somewhere

Question about timing , if my s300 table says 10 degrees at 10 psi is this total timing , or is it 10 plus my base mechanical timing which I believe is 16. So total timing would be 26 degrees at 10 psi , does that sound close to where it should be at 10 psi ?

I think you need to stop tuning and read a lot more before you end up with a blown motor.

Im dead srs

Your flame is not needed, could some one answer this question ? I didn't tune my car I'm just trying to learn. I have data logged my passes at the track , is the ignition value that shows in my data log total timing ?

The table values are not total timing. That I am aware of there is nothing that displays total timing in SManager. The S300 delivers in some aspects and completely drops the ball on some of the most basic user needs.

Wasnt even a flame.

If i flamed your *** you'd know it

Base idle timing is 16 degrees. The spark is firing at 16 degrees btdc

Why would wot be the same timing or adding on top of your idle timing? That makes no sense. Srs do more reading before you blow your motor.

well i figured my issue out my base timing is off. so im just going to leave it that way for now as it seems to be running pretty good. other than the catch can fills up pretty fast. i have another issue with the anti lag in neptune though, when im trying to build boost all it does is a massive loud bang insted of smaller bangs im running 15% fuel and 25degrees timing retard. it drops the revs from 4500rpm right down to idle (1000rpm) insted of smaller rpm drops which id like

You can't be serious!?!? This thread just lost all hope... fix your car first and THEN try to play with other settings. If you are pinging, screw the anti lag BS unless you are genuinely trying to blow your engine up?

no pinging at all its running pretty dam good, its really not hard to sort the base timing out and lower it back to normal.

So does 20 degrees (table timing value) at 20 psi - 7500rpm sound about right or is this conservative? Compression is 9:1. What are you guys running at this boost level?
