First Build. Advice/Opinions
I want to begin building my own car soon for some small racing applications and to have some fun in. I may get a 93 Civic CX soon, all stock. I figure its a good car to begin for a first build. Because I am going to build it, I was wondering what a good place to start would be? I know the stock motor in it is not very strong. I was looking into a B16a2/3 USDM motor to put into it before any other aftermarket performance stuff. I cant seem to find one for a reasonable price. If anyone knows a place to get one that would help a lot. And Im not sure what to do with it when it comes time to smog. I want to keep it a street car but how much power can i really create with the OEM/EM parts? Any and all advice is appreciated.
First things first, if you're going to swap, don't get the b16. They are overrated engines, a b18 or b20 or H22 if you're feelin' froggy are better options for a swap. I don't know much about the smog legalities of being in Cali, so unfortunately I don't know exactly which one would be a good option for you.
The Cx model will come with a 8 valve 75 hp leaf blower motor lol. get rid of that thing asap for a b18 or b20. I agree that the b16 motors are overratted unless your willing to drop the money on a b16b which is the ctr motor. If your looking for budget friendly Id go with the LS or B18A or B18b. In california they are alot easier to be legal and BARD then b20s. Heres some advice, dont cut corners, dont go they cheap and easiest way, and make sure you triple check everything before you buy it. Good luck man
