I have a 97 accord ex and I change my head gasket and took the head to get fixed and now when I drive my car a pair of miles my upper hose gets hard and the engine idles and when I bought the car it didn't have thermostat and the fans are direct I left it like that I would like to know the hose gets like that

 

That's normal. Does the car run bad at all ?

You could compression test the motor to make sure it's sealing properly.
