Icon2 How Much Boost Can A Stock D17a2 Take

Hey guys,

I have a turbo D17a2 civic. I currently have it at 6psi. My question is how much is the max HP or Boost i can get out of the stock block?

Stock intake manifold? That's the first major limit, since it's plastic.

I have the d16y8 intake manifold on it. And I did not know the stock one was plastic. I thought it was aluminum.

Stock is plastic.

With a y8 manifold, you're looking at around 12-14psi before internals start to give way.

Plastic intake manifold hold that much boost.

Do you know about someone who have a car that the IM has break because of boost? I think you don't.

I am curious, what you are using for tuning? How much hp you have now? Any 1/4 mile number?

Actually I do, but he hasn't owned an EM2 for years. It ballooned to the point of fracture.

The stock D17 should hold as much power as D16y8, maybe a bit less. With good parts I can say around 300whp with good tune.

Other than the cyl head, the rest is similar to 5th and 6th.

I'm using the AEM FIC 6 for tuning. Currently have 200HP on stock motor stage 2 clutch at 6PSI and 3" Exhaust. Last run at the track with stock wheels was 12.92s...hoping to get about 250HP with cower stage2 turbo cams, new d16y8 intake manifold, APR head studs and better tires.
Tuned by DRT Tuning.

Sound good numbers...

AEM FIC 6 is a piggy back or stand alone.

D17 is famous for not getting power out of it, but the worst thing, besides the cyl head is the ECU. It tends to mess with whatever tunning you do. It "correct" the tunning to stock.

Glad to see you're still fighting the good fight Matt A bunch of other things will go way before the intake manifold. Take it from me, I've seen Paul futz around with the D17 for years hah. I wouldn't be surprised if the connectors popped before the manifold does.

Have you thought about the returnless fuel system? You also have to account for what kind of turbo you're running too. A GTX28 will not have the same spool characteristics and power levels at 8psi compared to a T3 Super 60

Yeah the fic6 is a piggy back ECU.
