i have a 1991 civic Si Hatch and im planning on plasti dipping it because its alot more cheaper doing that than getting a shop to paint it. I've heard mixed thoughts about it from friends about it and i wanna know if its worth it.
sure its worth it, and yes it can be cheaper then paint.. its is only a temp fix tho as it usually last about 3 years depending on how its stored. There are tons of different ways to skin a cat, this is just one of those. look on YouTube for vidz about about it....
I found that most people that flame on plasti dip have never used it. I agree that it is no replacement for true paint and body work. However, it's an option.ive used it a little. Cleared my front end for a road trip to a show, dipped my wheels, and even tested it on my valve cover (has held up to summer driving with turbo heat and under hood temps). It has its purpose. I believe that doing an entire car is pretty neat. However may I suggest you take your time and do a quality job. Look up fonzi from dipyourcar.com on YouTube. He has tons of info and helpful tips. When doing something that most people would hate on, I would do it right and knock it out of the park. And don't tell them it's dip of they don't know, until after they say they like it that's what I do with my wheels and valve cover.
$110 worth of plastidip rattlecans was enough to cover my 2000 Buick LeSabre quite well, and it draws all sorts of questions.
It's durable and can be power washed, but it gets dirty SO QUICKLY. I would avoid black if at all possible. The best thing about it is you can get runs, globs, etc. and they're hardly noticeable after a couple coats. It's basically paint for idiots. Impossible to screw up.
