Hi all, new here but I've been a long time reader.

1999 Civ LX - D16Y7 - Manual Trans - Working on a clutch replacement ... stuck on pulling shift linkage.

I see old topics that refer to the 'Bitch Pin' (BP) and the trouble and solutions people have come up with to removing it. I fortunately didn't have much of a issue removing that from the shift rod. Just used a 1/4 inch punch and a few hundred smacks of a hammer a few curse words and it came right out.

My issue is I've read mostly everywhere people stating once the pin is out you simple pull the shift rod off the trans shift rod.

This is the part I'm having trouble with. It wont pull off. Now while I gave up for the day , is it recommended or easier if you pull the stabilizer or extension rod off first? The two don't want to separate without the 'BP' in place.

 

Did you remove the bolt holding the extension rod?

 

No I haven't removed the extension rod yet. I wasn't sure if I needed to remove that first. My concern was getting the bitch pin out first. I can try that later today. Just found in the manual it says remove shift rod and extension rod. Not extension rod then shift rod.

 

Give it a try. I think I've always done it reverse order.

 

Soak it with PB blaster. Use an appropriately sized allen head socket and beat it out. If all else fails, drill it out and replace it.

 

^ I'm not sure you understand the OP's problem.

OP, remove the extension rod. If your bitch pin is out, the shift rod should slide off. If not, spray a little lube in there (e.g., WD 40, PB, Kroil) and work it around to loosen it up.

 

Once the pin is out get in the car, ram the shifter towards 3rd gear, it will come off. Do this before you remove the extension rod.
