So after about 6 months a cylinder head swap and a big accident later I've finally decided to post my hatch and all the pictures to go with it. It started life as a 1990 STD hatch with the 4spd trans. After about 4 months of vigorous driving I blew the 2nd exhaust valve out of the third cylinder. Decided to mini me the already swapped in JDM D15B non vtec motor with a Z6 head I found at the junkyard.
Halfway through the mess of tucking the engine harness and cylinder head swap.
Heres after I polished the old bottom ends pistons, they came out great I think.
The new Z6 head in place with its bead blasted valve cover I made for it. I picked this head from a local junkyard for 50$ what a steal! Had it redone at a local machine shop of course!
Theres the new head with the all the extras on it now. I went quite a distance to find someone with a cheap Y8 manifold since i read those were better.
And there it is all finished and pretty. Happy to say everything worked right and went well, other than that I needed to adjust the valves a second time after running it for a bit.
I went through so many forums searching for information and never really posting anything. I wanted to have done it for myself so I could post and help all the people wishing to do the same. In the end I swapped my head got a tuned ECU and was blown away with he power gain and I recommend it now to anyone who has a regular D15 and wants some more power.
Shortly after this swap I smashed head on into someone at over 50 MPH, luckily the car and I were ok. Their car however was not, their 2010 VW CC had the rear passenger control arm ripped clean off along with the exhaust. I had to repair my front passenger tire and still to be replaced passenger head light but other than that its solid.
Around this time I started getting pretty hardcore into rat rods and the Mad Max/Death Race movies which have been around for some time. I work for an exhaust/fabrication shop so its pretty easy for me to get a hold of piping and extra steel.
I started adding to the car with a simple bullbar and it grew from there. I still need to finish fabricating its rear sides and roof rack. After that I want to bar the doors and cage the rear windows.
The gearshift is massively tall and incorporates a vtec switch with a safety guard on it to stop accidental engagement. (not pictured)
It doesn't stop there either. Plans are to strip rear interior and add a mount for my Lincoln Power Mig 210 so I can weld on the car anywhere. The roof rack will incorporate 2 mounts for argon gas bottles as well. Clutch pedal to be removed and replaced with a lever near the gearshift (just some **** i thought of). The current IACV is removed and has been replaced with a manual air valve. I'm making a choke lever for it for starting and such, all really just for fun.
4 in total KC Hi lites on the bullbar along with a 40k lumen LED bar on the roof rack. Thinking of adding a winch to the front as well.
If anyone else has some cool ideas throw em at me!
