As far as I can tell it looks wet on the full outside rim of the crank seal.

Being oil pump o-ring is internal... How do you know when the oil pump o-ring is starting or has failed?

 

Oil may be leaking from both the oil pump and oil pan.

For the oil pump, a leak from the HondaBond gasket is more likely than the O-ring. Regardless, the pump must be removed either way.

 

Sorry Ron, I don't quite understand what your referencing. Are you talking about my pics or talking about my question?

BTW I have the crank seal, both o-rings (two size options for my motor don't know which mine is) and the pickup tube gasket on order, should have tomorrow.

Not sure if I need to do the full meal deal or if I can wait and just do the crank seal for now, clean the area up and inspect in a week or two....

The O-ring is internal to the HondaBond gasket and would not cause a leak from the oil pump crank seal.

If you replace the oil pump O-ring, then you need to replace the HondaBond gasket.

I also recommend that, in addition to the crank seal, you also replace the oil pan gasket.

Doing all of the above will almost surely eliminate all oil leaks on that side of the block.

 

Okay thanks. This is one time having a two piece exhaust header will come in handy.

I'm hoping all the seals come in tomorrow and then I can get everything done on Sunday as Saturday it's supposed to rain, might go out there and work in the rain anyway.

Oh... On the pan gasket, it's only 1.5 years old, so I'm hoping with a real good clean up of all surfaces with brake clean, it will get by. Money is an issue so I'm stretching it for now. If it does leak, I can always drop just the pan and do that gasket later when I have a little cash to spare.

Thanks Ron, I get one day of the weekend that I don't need to work on the car.

That oil leak was over a year old and when I went to remove the crank seal it spun in location. It was pretty loose. I suspect that was the real culprit and the oil was given lots of time to spread all over the area.

Anyways, everything is back together, cleaned up and the car is running like a top.
