Opened my sunroof earlier today and went to close it and it's not budging! I hear a clicking noise when I mess with the switch but the sunroof doesn't even attempt to move or close! HELP!!

 

Although you hear the clicking (which probably is from one of the two relays), do you hear the motor when trying the switch?

 

I don't hear the motor at all

 

If you don't hear the motor or it is very weak, the moonroof control unit may be faulty.

The moonroof control unit has the following components inside:
• moonroof open relay
• moonroof close relay
• motor
• CPU
• Hall sensor

Driver's under-dash Fuse No. 20 (20A) supplies always Hot power (+) to the control unit. The CPU uses input from the moonroof switch to provide ground for the relays.

There is a separate open relay and close relay. They work together to operate the motor. When you press open, the open relay coil is energized to provides power (+) to the motor and the close relay resting contacts provides ground (-) to the motor. When you press close, the close relay coil is energized and provides power to the motor while the open relay resting contacts provides ground to the motor, and the motor goes in the opposite direction.

 

So where are there relays located? Could it still be a fuse if I hear clicking when holding the button?

 

Also csn I get it to manually shut in the mean time

 

The relays are inside the moonroof control unit.

If you hear clicking from the relay, it means power (+) and ground (-) are energizing one of the relays; so, it probably would not be due to a fuse.

 

There is suppose to be a way to try to move the glass with a 4mm hex wrench (after the headliner is removed); but, that may or may not also require removing the moonroof control unit to do that, as it is not shown how that is done.

Try playing around with the moonroof switch (e.g., open, close, tilt. etc.) to see if it changes anything.

 

So these controls are over head then? And I've played with the switch a ton. It's not budging. :/ Of course it's open now and i live in Minnesota!

 

Yes, the control unit is overhead as shown in the image I posted; a little behind the midsection.

 

I'm afraid to ask what a new motor costs. Is manually closing this difficult?
