The Tank Vs American Iron
Yea so Corey only let 1 AIX and 1 AI car finish in front of him, beat everyone in his class, and set a new personal best lap record. 1:27.2 in Qualifying and 1:27.5 in the Race
After showing up late on Sunday morning.

Corey was kicking much a$$, mixing it up with Bryan Shugg for a few laps. Too bad an AI guy's engine decided to let go between turns 4 and 5, then have a small oil fire... Saw the whole thing from the bleachers outside turn 9 -
very competitive race.
P.S. For those of you who didn't go, you missed the Jaguar XJ220R vs. the 911 GT2 in that same race - it was INTENSE watching these two cars battle - each with gobs of power. They say the Jag was hitting 185 on the front straight...

In Sunday's qualifying I pointed Corey by because I wasn't on a hot lap and it appeared that he was. I decided that I was going to try and follow him... it didn't work. He was doing similar lap times to that of Brian Zalner, our series winner. I'm just not good enough to make up for the extra 300-400 lbs that Corey's got on me.

Awesome Day to say the least... Got there around 7:30, with big bore practice in 30min.. Ok, skip that, I just practiced with Small Bore.. Go out, try to warm up the tires, and go into T1, sideways! T2, T4, T6, T7, T9, T10 (anyone see a pattern here?) where all done in somekind of sideways fasion that whole session, I was just waiting to go into a tirewall backward, extremly fun, yes, scary as hell, YES.. After I realized the car wasn't going to get anymore rear grip, I called it a session...
Now, I know the track was Very cold, and the rear hoosiers where just not getting any heat.. I think about what I can do to get this beast to turn in a normal fassion.. Lower rear shock setting, up the rear shock settings, a little more air in the back, then BAM, Todd and I cam up with something.. I had 2 differently heat cycles on the back of the car.. One of the hoosiers at VIR developed a slow leak, so I traded with an old tire from the LMS race.. It had about 6 more heat cycles on it.. It was on the Left rear, so that explains why my car was so scary loose on all right hand corners.. So I swap the 2 rear hoosiers, since there are more right hand than left hand corners...
So go out in qualifying, car felt GREAT except for extremely loose in T3 and T8.. I mean, what FWD car gets loose in T8!? Qualified with a 1:27.2, my fastest lap at SP, I was very happy! So my theory about the heat cycled hoosier was right, its got tons of tread, but its dead, no grip... I do have the tire that has the slow leak still, so I decide to play it safe, and use that tire, unstead of oversteering into Shugg.. Oh yes, I also found out I can hit the 5th gear revlimiter on the summit straight when drafting a Factory Five car...
Put the shocks back to where they always are for ECHC races, put the tire on, a and went out there to get my **** kicked... I qualified on spot ahead of Shugg, but he was behind me, but on the inside...
The rolling start sucked!
Corey got railed, BIGTIME by cars on the inside.. But as we got to T1, everyone was braking, and no one was in front of me, so I stayed WOT for a 100+ more feet, and outbraked all the cars that passed me, Turned in for T1, on the outside, and car was full lock sideways, I caught it, staying Wide Open, but I was just waiting for someone to T me in the side.. My fault though, I should have remembered about the cold tire on a cold track thing.. So I regain the car, we are in T2 by then, didn't loose any spots, when one of the AIX cars in front of me, decided to lay down some HP, but forgot the same thing I did, COLD rear tires, he spun of the track in front of me in T2, and threw mud all over my car, and windsheild.. So great, I have no HP and Can't see too!
Basically, I could kill the AI cars on the braking, but couldn't really stay close enough on the straights to draft... I did get a better run out of T3, T9, T10 on them, but thats about it, I got murdered on T2-T3 straight... I finished a Second Behind Shugg, and we had some really great side by side racing..
First time I have really run w/ him, very fun to say the least.. Very clean.. That about raps it up, I finished 6th overall after one of the cars got DSQed... I'm ripping the cage out to get it ready for the new one..
Thanks for everyone's help this year, I really appreciate it

I spun my AIX car (black #33) in T1, on the restart after the 2.5 laps of yellow. Too much trail braking and the rear came around. I don't know if that is the event you are speaking of but I did that to someone. it was a neat race, I think that running a full race with only the HC could be a very exciting race to watch. It was neat to watch the hond (the red coupe?) Draft some of our guys down the straight when those guys are usually drafting me.
Is this right?
Schick 1st in AIX
Tone 2nd in AIX
Koehler 1st in AI
Shugg 2nd in AI
I was ahead of koehler and behind Dan when his motor exploding stopped the race. Were you right behind us and infront of Shugg?
Good job I hope we can organize another shared race with the EC, this time the entire field not just one or two. and we can run a standing start if you really want one, for whatever good it will do.
See you next year.

No, I fishtailed back and forth trying not to spin in circles, I did not want to enter the track there but I did not want to slide broadside through the dirt/grass/craters that are just outside of T1. sorry about that, I came in too hot and we were running a too slow of a pace through the full course caution to keep heat in the rears and it did not like trailbraking. I was also trying to keep a position from the #88 mustang that was blocking quite heavily.
What is the opinion of the 944 drivers running with big bore?

It wasn't you that went off in front of me.. Hoovier, I think, White mustang, aluminum wing... It was on the race start.. I think 2 AIX cars and 2 AI cars finsihed in front of me... But the one car blew up and caused the Red flag, while another, IMO should have been DQed for passing more than one car under yellow..

944 should have been in small bore, because the legends had their own group, IMO...

edit: I just counted and we've been with big bore at CMP, VIR and this past weekend.

Speed-wise, the 944s are smack in the middle of the race groups. I'd wager they would be more comfortable in small bore (vs getting passed by 180mph supercars). How frequently do the Legends get their own run group?

When it's all said and done don't be surprised if the #88 car is DQ'd for passing under the yellow. It was brought on video tape to the race director. It was very obvious and blatant. This is not the first issue with that particular car that need to be dealt with but I will be surprised if he keeps his finishing spot when the official results come out.

Shugg was right behind him, and I was behind Shugg when it happened, I didn't realize him and Shugg were battling for position, as in AI class...

T3-T4 was the passing... That was his claim, that it (yellow) wasn't there, if the wasn't there, you can believe me, I would have tried to pass Shugg right then...

It was ABSOLUTEY down for some of the double-yellow laps (I'm refering to the bucket on driver's right at entry to T3, not the bucket on driver's left between T3 and T4). I do not recall whether or not you guys were there when it was down. Lt Dan can verify it was not consistently displayed, as I mentioned it to him while we were watching from the start/finish hill.
