Can this car/cage be legal?
Im looking for a hatchback and i found one for a good price (Owner is finding out what kind of metal is used in cage. )
its a drag car tho. 8point cage. is NHRA legal to 9second runs.
here is a picture

so if the correct type of metal is used, will that be legal? (DOM corect?)
cause its a killer deal and a kickass looking car.
thanks for the time.

from what i see you are missing a diagonal inside the main hoop (from driver head to passenger floor). Not sure what else, aside from making sure the tubing material, OD and thickness are correct for the vehicle's weight.

I assume you are asking for Honda-Challenge and other road racing.
No. It would need modification to the main hoop, doorbars and probably front section (if one even exists).
NHRA and SCCA are not interchangeable rules and they often times conflict.
Also - It appears that some of the rear sheetmetal has been removed. It also appears to have plexiglass windows. Neither of which is legal for the Honda-Challenge. You can replace the windows but not the metal which has been removed.

In addition to what the others have said, here are some things to consider.
1. Attachment points. How many are there? Max is 8. Can't go through the firewall.
2. The rear-most tubes, IMO, go back too far. They should go to the shock towers. Where they are located now, they compromise the "crumple zone" of the car and will add rigidity where none is needed/wanted.

If it was a crappy bolt in cage i would just tear it out but i cant. its welded. (yes the car is that cheap.)
and it is an 8point. not through firewall.

I agree that the cage in its present form and from the pictures does NOT comply with SCCA rules. It is true that it is very important to have the build sheet for the cage itself. The fabricator should have signed off as mine did. DOM and Chrome/Moly are the only approved cage materials for 2003. As to the rear tubes-the location on the rear pans came into question by me when I ordered mine from KIRK Racing. That is an approved install in SEDIV and elsewhere around the country.
In your case going from NHRA to SCCA could be more expensive than simply cutting this cage out and replacing it.
Good luck

As karl and others mentioned: the points should attach to the rear shock towers, and you need a diagonal cross brace along the main hoop.
