So what is the scoop on 01 auto transmissions?
I have heard the Auto trans in the 01 Accords and I assume other years around that time have issues? What are the issues? My car is at 124k and the trans shifts what I feel is somewhat normal. It does not slip or anything really. I have owned MANY cars in my life and this ones shifts a little diff but nothing I would say is wrong. Fluid is more or less red still, does not smell burnt.
If your trans has lasted this long it is probably one of the better units. Bad units usually died in the 30-60Kmile range.
Only real goofy thing is there are a few trans(D4) codes that do not trip the CEL/D4 lights. Use an OBDII code reader to verify there are no stored codes.

First verify the fluid is full.
I prefer to warm up the engine/transmisison. Park on a level surface, place the gear selector in every gear for a few seconds, pull AT dipstick out, wipe it clean, reinsert it and pull out to check the fluid level.
I prefer the fluid to be towards the top of the hash mark.
If the gear shifts are overly harsh/late that may be a sign the gear pressure switch is clogged or beginning to fail.
Erratic shifts may be from a dirty shaft sensor, remove and clean sensor.
Not so positive shift feel, pull appropriate shift solenoid and verify it is not clogged or dirty with clutch material, there will be a screen on the end that may catch material.
However, engine health can greatly affect how the transmission functions as well.
A faulty TPS may not set a code but it will cause late or no upshifts. Before blaming the transmisison for a fault, verify the engine is in optimum working order.
