I have transmaission shifting problems. Mine are only in gear 1 & 2. It started 2-3 months ago, i have done the following things:
1) Changed the transmission fluid (sorry, but used non-Honda ATF Z-1)
2) Cleaned & Checked the "Shift Solenoid" per the manual (Ohms test & ops test), all good
3) Cleaned & Checked the "Lock Solenoid" per the manual (Ohms test & ops test), all good
4) Cleaned & tried to check the "Linear Solenoid" but no Ohm specs in my manual, it measured 8.5 Ohms (not sure if that is good or bad).
5) Replaced "Output Speed Sensor" with new part.

All the above did not fix or help my shifting problem.

Here is the exact behavior of my transmission shifting with shift lever in D4 position and PMC controlling transmission shifting:
1) Up shifting from 2 to 3rd gear, smooth, firm & at correct RPM
2) Up shifting from 3 to 4th gear, smooth, firm & at correct RPM
3) Torque convertor locking, smooth, firm & at correct RPM (delays if engine cold)
4) Up shifting from 1 to 2nd gear, jerks, slams into next gear
5) If starting from stop, seems to "slip" upon initial acceleration
6) Down shifting exibits same behavior as up shifting, jerks & slams in 1-2 gear range.
7) If I "manually" up shift or down shift, then shifts are smooth & firm.

Troubleshooting ideas please!!!

Sounds like the transmission is slipping between 1st and 2nd gears. may not be anything you can do for it at this point. If you don't have any other options you can try (at your own risk) adding Lubegard Red or Lucas Transmission Fix. Even if you do and it works, it's just a band-aid and most likely not a long term solution.

 

Well, I have a happy ending to my 1999 Honda Civic LX transmission shifting problem. In the early stages of this problem, while driving it occasionally would register a code P0730 (incorrect gear ratio) which is very GENERIC and told me nothing about the component that caused the incorrect gear ratio. Then recently, while driving it would occasionally mix in code P0758 (Shift Solenoid B - Electrical). That was a much better fault code which pointed to the Shift Solenoid B. I removed the Shift Solenoid assembly (includes 2 separate solenoids) and I did an Operational Test (grounded assy & applied 12v to each pin to verify solenoid would actuate). I verified that both solenoids in that assembly worked. I then did an Ohms test on each solenoid, 1 passed (15.2 ohms) and 1 failed (9.2 ohms). The Honda specifications on these solenoids are between 12-25 Ohms. That was enough evidence for me to get a new Shift Solenoid ($149.00 at O'Reilly Auto Parts). At the same time I decided to "Drain & Fill" the transmission fluid with Honda Genuine ATF (ATF DW-1 is the latest). I followed some professional suggestions and did it twice. After the solenoid replacement & 1st "Drain & Fill", I took it for a test drive and it shifted like a "charm". I did the 2nd "Drain & Fill" and now I am a "happy man". I guess I am now a believer of Honda Genuine ATF, even at $11.00 per quart. The lesson learned by me, just because the solenoid "works" by doing a test "off car", it may fail when operating under pressure "on car". So, if you are having shifting problems and you suspect the electrical control mechanisms (Shift Solenoid, Lock-up Solenoid, Linear Solenoid) are possible causes AND you have done ALL the standard troubleshooting things, accomplish an accurate Ohms test on each solenoid. Good luck!!! and "Drain & Fill" using Honda Genuine ATF.
