Speed Without Limits on TLC
I don't know if this is a repost or not...sorry if it is.
Did anyone catch the show on TLC called "Speed Without Limits" on Saturday (11/2/02)? Instead of trying to explain the show myself, I'll just copy and paste from TLC's website:
They had Schumi on there in an interview and had a bit about Ross Braun. I missed the first half of the show (as well as a bit of the last few minutes I think), but here's what I caught that I found interesting:
-The psychological profile of race car drivers is very similar to that of jet fighter pilots
-Race car drivers are "slightly psychopathic, but not pathological" (sorry, this is from memory so it might not be verbatim)
-Race car drivers "seem" like normal people
-Schumi gets paid $100k/DAY
There was more, but I just can't remember...I don't think it'll be on again, but if you know someone who taped it then it has some parts that are worth seeing. They have a bit about people who intentionally make planes spin out of control and then try and correct them. I think it was hosted by the guy who does the Top Gear videos (I think his name is Tiff Needle (sp?)).

Did anyone catch the show on TLC called "Speed Without Limits" on Saturday (11/2/02)? Instead of trying to explain the show myself, I'll just copy and paste from TLC's website:
What makes some of us deathly scared of rollercoasters and others not afraid to jump out of a plane with only a thin piece of muslin to slow our descent? During this hour we'll explain these differences between humans, while demonstrating some of the craziest ways we satisfy our yearnings for speed. With host and test driver, Jeremy Clarkson, we'll take you from the hills of New Zealand to see a plane with no wings that can reach speeds up to 80 mph, to the bobsled courses of Sweden, where Jeremy learns first-hand the taste of true fear.
The daredevils of the world come out in force to give interviews and demonstrate their individual talents, including rally champion Colin McCrae and world-champion race car driver Michael Schumacher. Jeremy turns to science to figure out why it's easier for some people to perform these amazing feats and how their able to do it. You'll also see the future in the Euroflyer, a plane that can fly itself and uses the voice of a housewife and a computer to communicate with its pilot. Then we go to Wales, where some of the strongest stomachs in the word live. We'll send Jeremy up in a plane and then purposefully let it go into a death spin. We'll also investigate one of the most dangerous sports in the world, high-speed powerboat racing. It kills one in every 10 drivers every year. In this exciting one-hour program, TLC will bring you the thrill of speed.

It was a good show.
I especially liked the line about Schumacher being "able to bore a man to death at 20 paces" or something like that.
The Speed Skiers are unreal.

I saw both of the episodes that showed...and liked them. Don't forget the Colin McRae bit where Jeremy Clarkson stuffs the WRC focus....lol
I would have slapped Michael Schumaker silly in handslaps though compared to Jeremy ...
And what was really unreal was the balloon skydive record.....fastest and highest freefall skydive record....mach 1+ baby (of course it helps when you are on the edge of space...hehehe)!

Ya I saw it but not sure driving cars to the limits like some of us do is the same as those base jumpers jumping off cliffs. Now that looked nuts.
