Default tires size?

would a 215/45/16 be to wide for a 98 ek9. I currently have 205/45's and it really dont rub. The car has about a 2.5 inch drop all the way around.

A 215/45/16 will give you a larger sidewall. If you are looking for for a wider tire contact patch, then go with 215/40/16. You will gain about a half inch in width. You will lose a little overall diameter, but it will only be a few mm. Nothing noticeable expecially when your car is lowered. I just ordered a set of tires in 215/40/16. After I get them mounted, I will have pics and stuff.

BTW, they may rub with how much of a drop you have. I dont think I will be lower than 2 inches at the most. What offset are your wheels?

i have a +42 offset on my le37's and my tires are 205/45/16. I just wanted a slighty wider contact patch so thats why I am curious about a 215/45/16 tire.

If you just want a wider contact patch, then go with the 215/40/16. The sidewall height will be nearly identical. If you go with 215/45/16, the sidewall with be larger, thus making a larger diameter. I went with 215/40/16s on the 16s I ordered and they have a 42mm offset as well. But if you are sitting around a 2.5 inch drop, you dont want the extra height from the 215/45/16. 215/40/16 will be perfect.

Look at these spec:

Here's some factual information for you hyna

Measured with the tire on the wheel:

205/45/16
Section width 8.1"
Actual Tread width 7.2"
Height 23.2"

215/45/16 Tire
Section width: 8.4"
Actual Tread width: 7.4"
Height: 23.7"

215/40/16
Section width: 8.6"
Actual Tread width: 7.8"
Height: 22.7"

Therein lies the answer. If you want a larger contact patch, go with the 215/40/16. The sidwall WILL be "square" because the tire won't be "stretched" as much. They WILL rub, so you'll have to raise your car .5" or roll the fenders out.

Unga.
