Default 95 civic dx overheating problems/maybe head gasket

I'm new to this site and Hondas in general. I just bought a 95 civic dx 2 weeks ago from a female friend who wanted to junk it. It had overheating problems and she used to put water in it every 30mins of driving and the heat blew out cold air(also she had a shady mechanic). When I got the car I replaced the a/c compressor and fan just because. I then found out it was leaking through the radiator cap after having the system tested. After replacing cap I was getting boiling coolant coming through reservoir. So I thought thermostat is bad, turns out there is no thermostat in the car. So I put one in, still same problem. I saw signs that there was stop leak used so I thought clogged radiator. Bought a new one this morning and put it in, bleed the air out the system.
now no coolant overflow but car still showing hot as soon as I start to drive. I'm at my wits end. I don't kno what else it could be. Car drives fine but gets really hot fast. By the way last mechanic has fan rigged to fuse box to turn on as soon as car starts
Please help
