Default Spongy Brakes????

I just bought a 97 base model Prelude. My first impression was that the brake system felt like it needs to be bleed. I've bleed the brakes, it still felt the same. I took it to a shop and had the brake system flushed and replaced, still no change. I've been checking the brake fluid levels for about a month now but the level is still the same. haven't noted brake fluid leaking from the brake booster under the hood or near the peddles in the car. Is this normal? FYI, my car does have 193,000 miles on it. I don't know what the service history is for this car but it runs really good.

I've seen this happen before. A friend had 200K miles on the vehicle and had only changed out the front brakes. He never touched the rears. The brakes felt spongy with new front brakes so, he changed out the rears and the spongy went away.

In other words- put new brakes on all 4 corners.

It doesn't matter how worn the brakes are. They're hydraulic. The pedal should always feel the same whether the pads are brand new or down to backing plates, as long as there are no failed hydraulic/mechanical components or air in the lines.

OP probably has a stuck caliper pin on one of the calipers. They should be removed/cleaned/lubed....or just replaced whenever you do the brakes.

If that doesn't help, you may have a master cylinder issue.
