Default 1.6L in my 94 civic dx?? please help!

Ok so I just got my first car and have always been into or wanted to get into racing (I'm new) and I decided to go with a four cylinder and chose a beautiful 94 civic, anyway I checked the vin and the vin on my door and it matches and tells me I have a sohc d16L L4 engine and says they are in the del sol or si what I don't under stand is how it's in my car why I'm so concerned because usually I'd just plan on getting a b16 but I want to start small and cheap so I'm gonna stick with the d16 and soup it up ( if it even is a d16) like I said I'm new so if any one can help much appreciated

The engine stamp is on the front side of the block. Pop your hood, look to the left of the exhaust manifold where the block meets the transmission and you'll see it.
