J30A1 Camshaft removal in car 2001 accord v6 coupe
I have an 2001 accord coupe v6. The surface on the cam, that the cam seal rides is deeply scratched, not just from the seal making its own groove, but axially due to poor seal removal practices. So reseating the seal to a different depth is not an option. I am going to try to rig up a way to press on a speedi/redi sleeve type repair. I tried this once before on the forward most cam and the interference fit seemed way too tight and sure enough the sleeve got munched. If this second attempt fails, i need to know if its possible to remove both camshafts from the cylinder head while the engine is still installed in the car? The clearance looks really small (sliding the cam completely out) So if anyone has actually done this please post up. Please briefly list what things need to be removed to accomplish this. If anyone can point me to some info on removing the cams that would be great.
As a side note is there any reason that it would be a bad idea to put in a different set of used cams or new cam (different wear patterns?) without doing anything else to the cylinder head?
Also can engine shops true and polish the cam seal surface with a fast turn around time, like in a day or so? I've never dealt with any sort of engine work machine shop before- only bought reman'd heads online.
Thanks for the help
