I'm the owner of 1997 Honda CRV and concerned I'm not getting true information from my mechanic, so found this site while looking around. Hope to know more about my car than my mechanic eventually...lol.

Right now though my main concern is finding out how much oil should be in my car following a service and oil change. My mechanic says the manufacturers instructions say it should be on the 'full' mark when engine is running but I not sure about this as our engine smells hot when running, which it didn't before. Our dipstick is reading 10mm over the "full" mark which we think is too much. This was measured half an hr after using the vehicle.
