3rd Gen Civics
Well, due to the scarcity of 1st gen CRX Si's, I'm forced to consider 3rd gen civics as well. However, I do need fuel injection, so can anyone tell me which models have it, and the best canditates for my B16A swap?
thanks!
Matt
thanks!

not sure about the FI, but i think 87+ had it, could be wrong. HASport does sell a mount kit for a 3rd gen but wiring is a pain in the ***, but definatley possible. As long as it mounts in right, which it will you only have to worry about wiring and HASport could probably tell you the hard spots of the wiring.
Yeah, I know about the Hasport wiring
Perhaps I should rephrase my question:
There is no Si in 1987, is there? If this is true, which models are the fuel injected models? The 1500S? I live in Canada, so maybe it's different here, but from what i understand the DX's are carburated, right? If I get a carburated car it will be a big PITA to change it over to FI, won't it?

All Si's from 84-87 are FI. The DX's and 1500S's are not. I looked into swapping FI into a '87 DX before i got my '87 Si and its just too moch trouble. A lot of work and parts are involved and i just think its a lot better to build off of a Si platform instead of trying to swap a carb to FI.

check out http://www.redpepperracing.com or crx.resource.org or search for the crx resource on google.... there was a link on one of these to all the specs for 84-87 crx and civics.
Mr. S; I am almost positive that injected 3rd gen Civics were not sold in Canada, so you may be
out of luck there. As far as a FI swap into a non-FI car, its a lot of work. You would basically need
a FI donor for parts, like the fuel tank & pump (+ lines), plus the wiring harness & ecu (you get the idea).
However, since all the 3rd gen stuff is rusty up here anyways, why not look into getting a clean,
rust free and cheap vehicle from the drier parts, like LA or Texas, Arizona etc.
There is no duty on importing them up here, only gst, and a mild set of paperwork for the a/c.
Shipping might be the only pricy part, plus finding one could be a pain.
You may want to check out the Feb. 02 issue of Sport & Compact Car where they do a D16A1 swap
into a '87 Civic Si (which they buy straight & clean, with a blown mill, for around $200!); there is also
a B16 87 CRX featured, but no swap info. I can scan the pages if you are interested.

Thanks for the info gregv. I suspect that you may be right in that there are no FI 3rd gen civics in Canada... I will have to look into that though. Maybe I should just head down south and take a look around, eh? Only prob is half of these cars, as you said, are competely rotted out. Maybe I'll have to look in the interior for a clean one. If worse comes to worse I'll just buy a 4th gen civic. As for the SCC issues, i have both of them, but thanks for the offer!
I think the 84-87 CRX Si's are injected, but they are getting scarce, which is what prompted this whole
discussion in the first place! I was at one point very interested in the swap you are talking about, but the
unavailabilty of solid sheetmetal put me off, so I ZC'd a '91 Si hatch. You have to realize, though, that the 4th
gen. civics aren't that much newer than the 3rd, and they rust just as bad. I bought a very clean, 1 owner car
that had been somewhat properly maintained, and it still had some rust in the offside rear wheelwell and adjacent
sill. I stongly suggest copious amounts of Waxoyl or Dinitrol in every orifice, as well as taking off the front & rear
bumpers and front fenders as soon as you get it home. There is an amazing amount of crud that builds up in all
the hidden cavities, and it can stay wet a long time in our rainforest weather.

people need to get **** straight:
85-87 there were CRX Si's
86-87 there were Civic Si's
those are the only fuel-injected Civics model years 84-87 period (in America at least).
regarding how much they wiegh, a friend of mine has a B20 in his 87 Civic Si with the rear interior gutted, and it weighed in at 2010lbs. without driver.

Canada got the CRX SI in 87, and NEVER got the Civic SI (3rd Gen). So if you want one, head south. Wayyyy south.
And my 87 hatch weighs 2150 with driver and full interior. That's with the stock engine though.
