Default 2006 Pilot Keyless Entry Issue

Hi! I have just recently purchased a 2006 Pilot EX-L with Nav which I am enjoying very much. When I received the vehicle, it only had one key with the integrated keyless entry buttons which work fine. However, wanting to have more than one key, I went to the Acura dealer (where I bought the vehicle) and ordered two more keys.

After spending the money to have them programmed to the vehicle, the new keys work fine mechanically, but the keyless entry buttons on each of them will not open the vehicle. The dealer thinks it may be an issue with the Keyless Control unit. However, the original key I received still works fine.

I attempted to program each of the keys to the vehicle myself using the general procedure (insert a key, turn ignition on, press button, turn ignition off - [4 times], then press button on each key within 4 seconds of each other) but the new keys still would not work. The old key still works fine.

Any ideas of what I might try to get the new keys to work? When the keyless buttons are pressed on the new keys, the red lights do light up ... just don't operate the door locks.

Thanks!

I believe I have an answer to my new key programming problem. I checked the key that worked and read the FCC ID: CWTWB1U545 on the back of the case (and also inside on the module). I then checked the new keys I had made by the dealer and they were a different FCC ID. Essentially, the dealership gave me the wrong keys and cut and programmed the inhibitor chips to operate mechanically on my Pilot. Unfortunately, they are unwilling to replace my new keys with the right ones at no cost. Arrrgg!

After some web research and thinking, I have determined that I can purchase two new key blanks on e-bay with the FCC ID: CWTWB1U545 for about $37 each. Although they are uncut and the inhibitor chip is not programmed to my Pilot, I can easily remove their transmitters with the right frequency and transplant them into my earlier new keys. Since the earlier new keys had been properly cut and the inhibitor chips properly programmed, the new transmitters from e-bay should allow my keys to properly operate the keyless door locks.

The e-bay keys should be delivered to me next week so I will let you know how this works in a week or so.

I received my new keys (blanks and not programmed) from E-Bay and I was able to program them both for Keyless entry since they were the proper frequency. I then removed the transmitters from the E-Bay keys and transplanted them into my earlier new keys that had the wrong transmitters. I now have my keys working properly - they are cut for the vehicle with proper inhibitor chips, and the new transmitters work and are properly programmed for keyless entry for my vehicle. Whoo-Hoo!!!

Hope this thread will be helpful to others that my have experienced the same problem I did!

Thanks!

Thanks EDMJDMUSDM! As I learn more about my Pilot, I will be sure to share anything that can perhaps be helpful to others - as others have been sharing their insights also in this forum.
