Shot to nothing really, as this concerns a non US model Civic, one of these:
Came with a K20A3 stock, and planning a K24 swap when funds allow.
Problem is, no one modifies these much and there are few parts available.
When it comes to exhausts custom is really the only route, but was looking at the K Tuned 3" oval system for max clearance, as in the UK, the only places we don't have huge potholes is where there are mountainous speed humps (Road tax going to good use then)
The first question is, these 5 doors are about 3 inches longer overall max dimension wise, and i was wondering about how a KT 3" exhaust for an RSX might measure up.
Tried to find the fabled pics of a stock RSX axle back on an EP3 for comparison as i read it is supposed to stick out some 3-4 inches, but no joy
I do have a pic of a stock EP3 Type R muffler bolted up to one of these 5 door cars:
Not the best angle, but you can see it sits under the car some way, i wondered if an exhaust designed for the RSX would sit better (assuming the whole system was fitted, midpipe, header etc.)
Also, how retarded would it be to run a 3" cat back on a stock K20A3 with just an intake, race header, and K-Pro?
Pointless is fine, as a K24 is planned, but harmful to its already meagre performance would not be helpful.
Thanks for reading, hope you can give some pointers.
Haha! Silly question really, but thanks for looking!
So far as i can see, the overall dimensions of the various cars are:
DC5: 173"
EP3: 165.8"
ES2: Between 174.6 and 175.6 depending on the regional market
EM2: 174.8"
EV1: (Chassis code of my car) 168.7"
Seen guys fit an RSX axle back to an EM2 and say it needed extending about 3-4 inches, but i guess that is not too relative as the difference seems to stem as much from the variance in hanger mounting point locations between the DC5 and EM2, as the difference in actual car lengths is more like half the length of extension required.
Might be technically easier to get the KT oval midpipe and RSX header, and go with a custom axle back, but if an off the shelf solution would work it would be rather more straight forward IMO.
If anyone can find a pic of a stock RSX axle back on an EP, that would be helpful to get an idea of how it might sit compared to my car.
Cheers!

Hey man,
I know It’s been like 8 years but I have the same car and the same question. What solution did you come up with? Or does anyone else have a solution to this exact problem? What exhaust should I get for the 5 door hatchback civic 2001 EU1
I ended up with a custom mid pipe as the original snapped a week after installing coilovers!
It was not 3"/76mm, but slightly larger than stock, as I was still running a stock K20A3 and I read that - without big power - too much pipe diameter can reduce gas velocity and interfere with scavenging from the combustion chambers.
If you have an EU with the 1.4 or 1.6 D series, I'd suggest not going too large on exhaust, as you may lose useable power down low.
If you are K swapping, or boosting your D series, I'd suggest a custom job.
If you are in UK/EU - Exhaust parts UK sell a "weld it yourself" kit for the EP3, with pre bent tubing and a 3" oval mid section which might get you pretty close, or reduce costs with a fabricator.
Hope that helps, as there is not much support out there for our longboi chassis lol.
P.S. I still have my slightly larger than stock stainless midpipe and EV1 back box sat around, so if you are in the UK and want to come fetch it drop me a PM.
the union between the front and mid section is slightly differently angled between the K and D series cars, but likely cheaper to alter than fabbing a whole exhaust!
Thanks alot. I have a D15b in mine which as far as i know is a 1.5L EU. I am really just looking for sound from the exhaust and i'll swap in some coilovers and bigger wheels. Not much of a build, but thats as far as i intend to go with it, really down to my budget and availability of parts where i live. Everything costs like double just to ship and clear. Not many options for custom exhausts here either. What do you think is the closest fit catback exhaust i can buy and it would more or less fit without much modification. Would an EP3 catback exhaust system be far too short or would it be usable?
Currently in the middle of a 12 hour night shift, so can't really look up much information.
The main differences for the 5 door would be the longer wheel base placing the axle line further back than the 3 door and the fact the EP3 has a shorter down pipe/cat than both the EV and EU models.
I'd imagine alterations/lengthening would required at both ends to make things work.
Also, the risk might still remain of losing a little low end.
As a suggestion, you might be able to tune your sound - and look - with a axle-back bolt on back box and changing the mid box for a more free flowing version.
The latter of the two has a real effect on the sound of the exhaust, depending on your choice of part.

Hello, long shot, as I came across this post when looking up exhaust systems for a pal, but would you by chance still have the exhaust kicking around?
