95 del sol timing belt job
Hello, I'm trying to do a timing belt job on a 95 Del Sol Si 2Dr 5 speed MT. I purchased the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump, but i'm still looking for the tensioner spring. Honda seems to not want to sell the timing belt tensioner spring by itself (at least for a lot of models that i checked). They sell tensioner sets which include the tensioner and the spring. But since i already purchased the tensioner (GMB brand), i only want the spring so i dont have to spend $$$.
I found that the tensioner set (P/N 14520-P2A-305) is used for (at least) 93-97 Del Sol Si 5 speed Manual Transmission models AND 93-00 Civic EX 2Dr 5 speed MT too. It seems though that for models 96 and up they use P/N 14516-P2A-J00 for the spring, whereas for models 93-95 they use P/N 14516-P08-000 and P/N 14516-P08-010 for the spring.
So, since they all use a common P/N 14520-P2A-305, does that mean that P/N 14516-P2A-J00 is the same as P/N 14516-P08-010 and P/N 14516-P08-000? (that would be a logic reasoning). Can any tech confirm this information? How about this P/N 14516-P2T-000? will it fit 95 Del Sol Si 2Dr 5 speed MT? thank you.

Not familiar with GMB, I would recommend if you can return that stuff back for the gates timing belt kit. It comes with the spring and is more a recommended brand. Gates makes honda's belts.
I know the gates kit is a lil more, but trust me there's a reason why. Think its cheaper than OEM too.

Not sure why you think Honda doesn't sell the spring separately. It is part # 14516-P08-010.
Is your spring damaged? remember the spring is not constantly tensioning the belt. it is only used while setting and adjusting tension. Once tension is set the pulley is locked in place.

it's too late to return my timing belt kit. I haven't started the timing belt job yet, but i wanted to replace the spring to make sure it's putting the correct tension cuz with age the springs tend to loosen and therefore the belt will not have the proper tension. BTW, GMB brand is a decent brand according to my research. They use quality bearings. Same goes for their water pumps.
There's a mechanic guy on youtube that goes by "briansmobile1". He said he's been using their W/P for years and very satisfied with their quality.
I tried to look up those part numbers on rockauto but nothing comes up. This is ridiculous, i can't find the spring anywhere! not even online!!! really HONDA, you must be that desperate and hungry for money to make people pay $82 for just a spring! Yup, the guy at the dealer said it cost the same to get the spring alone as it would cost to get the tensioner with the spring
I checked autozone and oreilly but these stores dont even carry the spring. I also checked napa's and carquest's website but it doesn't look they carry it either. This really sucks. If anyone knows where to get the spring by itself please let me know.

Because it's sold as a unit. You don't buy just the spring. Sorry, that's just not how it works.
So let me get this straight. You bought a tensioner roller, but it didn't come with the spring? It should have. I've never bought a tensioner that didn't come with the spring. Call the company you bought the tensioner from, and see if maybe it just didn't get put in the box. If they really don't sell the spring with the tensioner...just follow proper procedure for the self adjustment, and check deflection afterwards, like you should anyway. If the deflection is within spec, you're good. The spring doesn't hold the tensioner anyway - it's ONLY there for initial tensioning. After that, a bolt holds the tensioner in place.
