Default electrical?tranny?engine?....i dunno

friday night on my way home from work several different things started happening. 1st of all when my e-brake is engaged the lights that tell you a door is open comes on. 2nd my entire gauge cluster goes haywire, sometimes the rpm's will show sometimes it will just bounce up and down dramatically. 3rd the speedometer doesn't work at all, well it works up til i hit the smallest bump in the road. 4th my winshield wipers are slow as ****. last but not least, my car has broke down 2 times over the weekend, the lights will stop working, it makes a fast ticking noise when i try to restart it, so i automatically thought it was the battery and not the alternator. so i bought a new battery and thought everything was cool, til just a little while ago. EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING AGAIN. PLZ HELP

also i have a transmission problem. there is a chirping noise that gets faster the more gas is given and it disappears when the clutch in pressed in. when accelerating i have a grinding noise.

sounds like your car was a "flood recovery". Was it? Electrical problems start popping up 6mo-1yr afterwards.

i haven't really seen you in this forum so why don't you post your cars specs:

year
trim level (lx, ex, dx)
miles
tranny ever replaced? Last time had transmission fluid changed?
any front-end accidents?
any weird events....maybe driving into a flooded highway...something like that. This will help us pinpoint your problems...

i'm in this forum all the time.

2000 lx, 50,000 miles. never had a front end collision, never had any problems with the tranny, had all maintenance checks done. i've never driven through a large body of water nothing. i baby my car, have used mobil1 synthetic since the day i bought it. my mods include: i/h short shift adapter.

i don't understand whats goin on cause there were no warnings that this was comming on. normally i can tell just by how my car accelertates how many miles to the next oil change, i mean i notice every little thing.

thanks in advance,
brian

Did you recently have an alarm put on or Sound equipment etc...
If done improperly could cause all kinds of strange things!!

Sounds to me like you are running a new audio system with a very shitty ground, everything you are saying describes the symptoms of a bad ground.

did u install indugo gauges or mess with your dash and when the rpm's rise and fall does the engine surge also. also did u get an alarm put in recently. i dont remember if the e-break rests at ground or 12volt.

When you had the sound system removed did they actually remove everything? I would make sure they removed all the wiring too. Sometimes they like to stash it under some carpet somwhere and that can cause problems.

You're saying that when you start your car, all you hear is a fast ticking noise.. If that noise is from the engine bay, it might be from your Starter Solenoid.. I don't know anything about Accords.. But I do know that if it's from your Starter Solenoid, that means that your Coils inside the Solenoid are not getting enough power.. It's kind of hard to explain..

But if that's the case, I'd have to say that something is causing a Hot to Hot Short.. And since everything that is happening is around the Cluster, my guess would have to be the Ignition Switch Module or the loose connections in or behind the Fuse Box.. I can't really give you an answer because I don't have a wiring diagram for a Honda Accord.. But Good Luck..

thanx i'll check that out. i also checked to see if the wire was removed from when my subs were taken out at it was gone. my engine doesn't really surge when the rpm's go up and down. the only thing that has occured similar to that is, today when she died on me was that she started to buck and sputter. the part that i can't figure out is why did the battery that i bought friday seem to alleviate all the problems i was having temporarily instead of not at all.

Because, it might be that you have a short somewhere in your wiring system and it drained the battery!!
Thus putting in a new battery help it for a little while until it starts draining the battery again!!
Maybe your old battery only needs to be recharged!!

A dead alternator will drain a battery in a hurry. Checked that?

Yea, it has like 2 or 3 bolts and you can just yank it off and carry it to any of those places and they'll hook you up, it's usually free. A new one is like $100 I think.
