Ecu for both B & K series.
So I was just reading the other day and realized that aem infinity 6 PN: 30-7106 is used for both B and K series. Are there any others where one ecu is capable of running both motors?
Reason I'm asking. I have a 97 del sol Si with a B18C5 swap. I want to put down a launch control. I'd also like to ditch the top speed limit @200 km/h. And try to squeeze a few more hp out of it. (Even tho I realize it will be a negligible difference on my stock motor. I have heard of people gaining 3-20 hp on a retune and premium gas.)
I had basically quit looking at tuning solutions because I'm planning on K swap in the future but will likely have the B18 for at least 2 more years. I have no intention of buying a tuneable ecu that will only work on the current b series cause then I need to buy a new one for the k series.
So I guess this turned a bit to opinion. What would you do if this was your scenario? The aem is nearly or over twice as much as a hondata system would be for each motor. Is it that much better? Is there a lower cost option that is a good ecu still for both motors? Would you just do a hondata for each motor? Money is no object for my build only time is my limiting factor.

That was the impression I was under till yesterday when I found this. It's kinda why I had quit looking till I swapped. But as I said Aem electronics lists the same part number for for both.

Am I missing something or misreading it? Obviously you'll need different harness.

The EMS itself can be configured to run OBD1 engines or OBD2 K series engines. it is all in the hardware and software settings. The wire harness is sold separately and it is the wire harnesses that are the difference. One is for the OBD1 and the other is for K series. It is a bit overkill for a basic OBD1 B,D,H series build. However if you are going COP, drive by wire or multi fuel it would be a good all in one EMS. Bit pricey when you consider MegaSquirt has the same PNP hardware for 1/3 the cost.
This Infinity EMS is along the same lines as the Motec, Haltech and Megasquirt engine management systems. As long as you have the means, PNP wire harness and connectors, to hook the computer up. You can configure it to run COP, Wasted spark, Fully sequential fuel and ignition.

OP, I would recommend that you just use one of the available OBD1 boards that are out there... NepTune/Hondata/etc. They retain their value well enough to be considered an investment IMO (a rare term when spending money on a car) and work incredibly well for what they are. They also offer you a great entry point for learning how to tune on your own without getting swamped in the complexity of a full-featured standalone EMS (and you most likely will if you go that route!).
All you need to run an infinity 6 or 8h ecu on a b/d/hseries is the plug & play harness & the coil adapter if your using a distributor instead of a t1 pickup or aem pickup with coil on plug.

Back in 2013 I had a chance to talk to the guy that developed the hardware for that system and sold it to AEM. Really cool stuff, the capabilities are off the charts.
