Brand New in the box Type R Transmission question
I recently purchased a 96 spec (same as 97/98 & 2000/2001 USDM type R transmission) from an individual in Sacramento for a GREAT DEAL. Brand new, never used.
White & Red Honda sticker Part # 20011-p80-j41 on the box
Serial number with bar code indicates S80 -4001739
See through hole (LSD)
Top of trans has black stamped lettering "BE.04.09" and to the left of this lettering there is a GREEN dot and Brown Dot made by a paint marking pen.
However, my trans IS NOT stamped J4D
LSD
A day before i bought the trans, he sent me a picture of one of the 96 spec ITR (20011-p80-j41) trans he had. (which came to be the other one he had in stock at the time and sold it on ebay a day before I bought mine) it had the J4D LSD stamp, and in addition, the serial number on that one was "S80 -4001740" and the top of the trans had black stamped lettering "BE-04-10" furthermore, to the left of this lettering there is a GREEN dot and Brown Dot made by a paint marking pen as well.
I could've sworn i seen the J4D LSD stamp when i bought it. I guess my mind was playing tricks on me..
before i installed the transmission I bought a OEM 4.785 final drive kit from HMOTORSONLINE and took everything to Synchrotech to have it installed as well as a LS 5th Gear.
My transmission and the one in the picture he sent that he had sold on ebay seem to go in numerical order according to the bar code S80 stamp and also the black lettering stamp at the top of the trans.
I panicked and called him upon installation today and he assured me it's a Type R transmission from Japan..
During the test drive I checked 2nd , 3rd & 4th gears at certain MPH/RPM and according to MFactory's gear calculator my trans is indeed a 96 spec gearset. (1st gear is the same on all 94-01 transmissions and my 5th gear is a 94-01 LS so i didnt check those two gears) I had input the final drive as 4.785 and tire size as 205/50/15 and everything checked out.
I'm much more at ease now.. but it's really bothering me as to WHY DOES MY TRANS NOT HAVE A J4D LSD STAMP !!
Sorry for the long post, just want to hear any feed back if anyone knows why this happened?

When I got my new Type R trans. from a member here it had a LSD stamp in fact I bought two and both had it but maybe they ran out of ink idk lol I wouldn't worrie to much. Mine is all but gone from wiping the case clean over the years. It wipes off very easy. Also put a piece of clear tape over the bar code on the trans cause if you wipe that off you will have no real proof it's not a stolen trans, I learned the hard way when I spilled clutch fluid changing my clutch line and when I wiped the sticker off the bar code came clean off! So I sold it and baught a new one and put the tape on it, my state CA does not play the no vin nor bar code game you will get sent to a refs station and can get the trans seized or even the whole car confiscated and crushed.
Hello,
I saw that you had the transmission additions done by us. I talked to the builder and he verified that your transmission did come with the stamp. The stamp is easily removed and came off when the case during the cleaning process. Whenever we do any work to a transmission we are extra careful and thorough. We had to wash the case to make sure there are no contaminants or sealing remnants that can plug up sensitive oiling passages. So your ok!
Thank you,

I got a PM from James @ Synchrotech.
A MAJOR Relief because I KNEW I seen it on my trans upon purchase. Thank you for the replying Wunfstgsr & James
