Got a friend with an 01 Type R i just rebuilt the engine and transmission on. Car was great the 2 times I drive it before i let him take delivery. He took it and had the alarm company come out and " check everything". A few days later he calls me and says he smells something burning( he thinks its the exhaust). I tell him to bring it over and Ill check it out. HE never made it( the car dies and wouldnt start back).... Keep in mind he has 50ish miles on the car at this time since the rebuild. I get there and the car wont start so I push start and it and it fires right up and I drive it to my house. Before I get home as im on my street smoke starts coming out from under the dash and I smell electrical burning so I hurry up and get home and shut it off..... This is the end carnage., Anyone have anything like this happen? Is there a certain spot I should start checking for a short before I rip out this dash and harness and replace it?

 

So who installed the alarm??

 

my friend said he now remembers the funny smell before we pulled the engine. so the problem was already there he just didnt remember.

 

Is there any chance you can give me the colors of the burnt wires?

If so, I can tell you what they may go to.

Leave the battery unhooked until you find the problem.
