95 Civic EX d16z6 bought the car for 800 new suspension blah blah blah got an awesome fu***** deal only one problem. Tach won't go over 4000. Motor runs just fine vtec engages motor is definitely revving over 4k but tach wont go past 4k. Anyone else have this issue before? Bad tach? Bad dizzy? loose wire? gonna hook an external tach up and see what happens just thought i'd ask before I put that much effort into it.

 

Could be a bad igniter unit or bad tach.

 

Did you check the Vtec solenoid wiring harness for possible tears or breaks in the wiring?
