I recently replaced my 98 b18b1 with another 98 b18b1 motor after a nos incident. I noticed the other day when I hit my rev limiter, it does not make that loud winding ping noise, it just cuts off. I was wondering if anyone knew if that is normal or should I get it checked out. This motor is alot stronger it seems than my old motor. Please respond if you are sure of your answer.

 

Just wondering why are you hitting the revlimiter?

it cuts off meaning the noise it makes ? you talking about the Fuel Cut off noise ?

 

I mean it don't make that pinging noise no more when it hits the rev limiter. Believe me I don't go around hitting the limiter, its jus that the other day I missed second gear and it jus cut the fuel off, and I heard no pinging or winding noise.

There is no reason to trash talk here. I was jus wondering cause the original engine in my car used to do that. I jus might have thought that something could be wrong with the engine or something.

 

you should be more worried that you hit your rev limiter often enough that you notice that sort of change. If it stops your engine from revving any higher than it's working, end of story. It will not kill your engine activate the rev limiter occasionally, but itsn't healthy to do that on a regular basis.

 

I understand that. Believe me I don't hit it like that. Jus that when I jus recenltly did it on the new engine, I never heard that weird noise like it did before when I hit it on my old engine. I jus thought something was wrong cause it sounded different.

 

Pinging from engine = bad.. why would you want your engine to ping!? this isnt ping pong here! Out of the 3 times i have hit my rev limiter i heard no noise other than the engine cutting off.. Damn guage that is off enough to make me hit the limiter!!!

 

well.. i haven't hit my rev limiter in a long while, after raising the redline, but from what i know ecu cuts fuel, maybe that causes the knocking sound..
