Default Hood cable frozen, what do you guys recommend?

Tried to open my hood today and it wont open because the hood cable is frozen, I could feel it stretching slightly so of course I stopped. And of course, it rained all day a couple days ago here in Chicago, and then the next day it was 40 degrees colder, so thats why this damn thing is frozen. How have you guys dealt with it? I have the bottom splash shields off my car, so I was thinking about seeing if I could get under there and possibly unbolt the latch. Only reason I didnt jack it up and look at it today is because I didnt have time to mes with it. Let me know what you guys think, thanks.

Also I do not have a heated garage available to park the car in, otherwise I would obviously do so.

This may be the reason the cable is seized with ice.

Get some lock de-icer on it? Park it in a heated parking garage somewhere in the city for an afternoon?

Actually I hadnt driven the car at all that day so I dont think thats why. It just rained really hard here for a day and then it all immediately froze over the next day. Anyways I was just wondering if anyones had this same situation and was able to unbolt the hood latch from underneath the car.

Have someone hold the release lever while you try and open the hood.

ok ok okk so heres what I'd do. Go to wal mart and get a hair dryer, extension cord, and a bottle of defroster. Try and spray it with the defroster, then if that dont work just use the blow dryer on the hood directly over the latch. it could take several hours but thats what happens when you leave the splash gaurd off
