Default Rear brake shoes: OEM vs AutoZone

Looking to replace my rear brake shoes on my 97 Accord LX (250k miles). Found a set of Honda OEM shoes on eBay for $29 +$10 shipping and AutoZone has a set of Duralast shoes for $20. Which should I go for? Thanks!

They last such a long time I doubt that you'll really notice a difference between them. I personallywould just go with the cheaper set. If it was the front rotors, I would go with a premium brand.

I would go for the Duralast set. If your shoes would need to be replaced again, I'm sure they are covered under the Duralast warranty aka free replacement.

Yes, go with Autozone. I LOVE the lifetime replacement warranty. You will need the brake hardware kit as well. I got the Advance Auto ones. Brake Shoes $10.73 + hardware kit $11.41 = $22.14. My original brake shoes lasted until 275k miles. I do not anticipate the Advance ones to wear out, but if they do, I have lifetime warranty. Hopefully I can have my car to 500k miles

Agree with 19Accord97. Put money toward good brake hardware at the front.

If you are changing out the front pads to match the rear shoes compound then whatever flavor of pad/shoe material to float your boat.

However, if the shoes are only being changed out then changing the compound will affect brake performance.

While in the drums don't forget to replace the wheel cylinders and verify the self adjusters are not worn/sticking.

Most rear brake shoes are a conventional organic compound. Too much friction in the rear will cause brake lockup in the rear without proper bias. I've never had a rear shoe make noise or chatter when it was properly installed.

NAPA does offer different lines of friction for some Honda models. In my experience spend more on the fronts than the rears, especially if you use drums in the rear. Higher quality pads will help in the noise/chatter department for sure.

Yes, I forgot about that. I needed new wheel cylinders too. They were not leaking, but they were hell to change, and I messed up the brake cylinders while changing the shoes.
