The feel of the car
This is kind of a different question but ide like to hear your opinions, i have a 91 dx and its ran great for me for the year ive had it, i sit in it often listening to music and the engine is quiet enough but it slows down and speeds up fairly often bogging down a bit and theres quite a bit of vibration in the seat. To the point what does your crx feel like when it starts? and what do you think might be wrong with mine? I appreciate any input and i dont expect a quick answer just a question for the bored people
Basically you have to get all the maintenance caught up and replace torn engine mounts. Then maybe some strategically-placed sound insulation (doors and rear wheel wells especially).
To get a smooth idle on such an old, high mileage car, I'm talking about deep maintenance. Valve adjustment, valve cover gasket kit, clean out IACV, remove throttle body and intake manifold, clean them out, replace gaskets. Remove IAT and wipe it clean. Adjust TPS and throttle cable tension. Distributor o-ring, cam, crank, and rear main seal if needed. Remove carbon from the combustion chambers. Replace vacuum hoses. Have the injectors serviced. Fix exhaust manifold cracks and other leaks. Replace/upgrade grounds.
Regular maintenance like ignition timing, spark plugs, oil, transmission fluid, air filter, PCV, and O2 sensor.
All this and you'll be rewarded with 35+mpg and tons of pep. Mine is over 300k and idles like butter.

1) Valve adjustment. (Did it. This with the new OEM timing belt helped the most.)
2) Valve cover gasket kit. (Did it. Twice actually because I found out anything but OEM valve cover gaskets absolutely suck.)
3) Clean out IACV. (Did it.)
4) Remove throttle body and intake manifold, clean them out, replace gaskets. (Have not done this.)
5) Remove IAT and wipe it clean. (Did it.)
6) Adjust TPS and throttle cable tension. (Have not done this.)
7) Distributor o-ring, cam, crank, and rear main seal if needed. (New distributor two months ago.)
8) Remove carbon from the combustion chambers. (Did Seafoam treatment every couple of oil changes.)
9) Replace vacuum hoses. (Have not done this.)
10) Have the injectors serviced. (Have not done this.)
11) Fix exhaust manifold cracks and other leaks. (Didn't even know this was a thing.)
12) Replace/upgrade grounds. (Have not done this, although I've been telling myself to do it for the past three years.)
13) Regular maintenance like ignition timing, spark plugs, oil, transmission fluid, air filter, PCV, and O2 sensor. (Done.)
I get 41MPG on the highway and about 34MPG around town. Every once in a while, I will be idling fine, then it will just dip to 500RPM and start shuddering. I just rev it and it goes back to regular idle. If I happened all the time, I guess I would get of my lazy *** and do some of the unfinished items.
