99 euro Civic - please some help with OBD2 diagnostic tool
hey,
i'm doing i little project to install a tablet in the car.
my main goal was to have live data obout the engine & sensors.
i just realized that mine 99 civic sadan have a p2p-b11 ecu but
because it's a euro model or some other reason i have only an 3pin dlc connector.
for the scan tool i must have a 16pin connector as far as i know.
my question is, if it's a p2p ecu (that supost to be a obd2)
can i somehow connect the scanner directly to the ecu or if there is any other way to get live data to the tablet?
re: 99 euro Civic - please some help with OBD2 diagnostic tool
The 3pin connector is between the glovebox & the center panel.
Near the hood release lever there is only an empty hole.
I checked around and as i understood my model just not have one (16P)
re: 99 euro Civic - please some help with OBD2 diagnostic tool
Must be a difference between the EDM and the USDM/Canada models.
However, you may not be aware that the 16P connector only has 5 wires and that only 3 of those wires (power, ground, DLC input/output) are probably needed for communication with the ECU. Do any wire colors in your 3P connector match to those in the 16P connector below?
re: 99 euro Civic - please some help with OBD2 diagnostic tool
i guess there really is...
somehow my model got a obd2 ecu with obd1 harness.
i just hope there's some easy way to convert it... i've got the right
ecu, must be a good start atleast.
re: 99 euro Civic - please some help with OBD2 diagnostic tool
This is the original engine, as far a i know.
It's a little hard to see the colors becouse they're covered, there us a BLU,
WHT/BLU and BRW/BLK.
Near the empty slot there's no evidence of removal or cut, i removed all the panels & searched everywere.

What engine is in your Civic? D16Y8? Post some pictures of the engine bay.
For 99-00 OBD2b Civics in North America, only one wire from either the service connector or DLC communicates and connects to the ECU at pin A10 or pin A21, respectively.
Re: 99 euro Civic - please some help with OBD2 diagnostic tool
I've got D16Y8 engine, EK15, japanese.
if the DLC diagram that you posted correct than I only need the "K-line" pin,
I have the basic model (noABS&SRS).
Re: 99 euro Civic - please some help with OBD2 diagnostic tool
I've searched and took pics of every unconnected plugs in & under the dash.
With some google assistance it's the only one that make sence because it's
have next to it the 2pin connector that (as I undestand) can be used for checking errors.
Re: 99 euro Civic - please some help with OBD2 diagnostic tool
The DLC connector should be on the under the driver side dash, near the fusebox. You'll need to pull away the lower dash from the driver side completely to find that missing connector. What I'm basicly saying is the previous owner probably tucked it away for some reason. Finish up with Ron's diagnose before moving on, I dont' want you hopping all over the place.
Re: 99 euro Civic - please some help with OBD2 diagnostic tool
What country are you in? If it really is a Euro civic it may not have a 16 pin DLC connector. JDM models don't and the ECU wont communicate with an OBD2 scan tool, even if you put the ECU in a USDM car.
You could if you really wanted to buy a USDM P2P ECU and wire in the the DLC port and add in or bypass the additional missing emissions sensors.

Do you think the 3P connector is related to the 3P connector of USDM/CDM OBD1 Civics?

Damn, no dice? All that work OP did was for nothing.

this Civic made i Japan, as I understand in those years they did all kind of expirements with the ecu's.
the ecu is xxxx- p2p - b11, but the wire wrom older civic's.
all I want is to do is to add the addiitional wires with the 16P conector,
I just don't know how to do It.
Re: 99 euro Civic - please some help with OBD2 diagnostic tool
I recall someone made a bluetooth adapter for obd1 but you still need to solder to some contact points. I'm not sure what else is needed for datalogging like temps, rpms, and whatnot but he was able to get it working over bluetooth. Let me see if I can google it again.
edit: damn its for chipped obd1 ecu's...but I'll link you if you're interested.

You're not answering the question. What country are you in? Made in Japan doesn't mean a whole lot as Japan made cars for the US and Canada as well.
And again, even if you wire the in the 16 pin DLC connector the ECU still wont communicate with a scan tool/tablet unless you replace the ECU with a US/Canadian ECU.
