Default 1st Gen CRV dash light fuse keeps popping

First Gen CRV, AWD, automatic, 98.
The dang thing keeps popping dashboard lights and heater control lights every time I turn lights on. It's been snowing about 18 inches and its really cold if that matters but I really need to figure this out ASAP!
I don't know if it matters but I had to repair the driver door wires about 3 or so months ago, possible short there that needs correcting maybe? I soldered and taped everything well but you never know...is that a possible area I need to look at?
I did search but can't find something specific to 1st Gen crv.

Default Re: 1st Gen cry dash light fuse keeps popping

I was googling and found a Civic forums and they said to check the dimmer switch (on a 98 Civic so I assumed pretty much the same thing) anyways they said pull the switch and jump the red and black wire together and see if it pops a fuse or not, if this works then its the dimmer switch.
Someone mentioned possibly a shorted aftermarket stereo wire and I was behind there a little while ago so just took out the harness and redid every connection this afternoon over lunch and it all works now!
Just FYI if anyone has this problem in the future.
