do NA cars REALLy need an oil catch can?
I was going to ask my shop to order me an oil catch can and they said it was not necessary for NA engines since there is not enough blow by. They said FI engines really benefit from it. What should I do?
all i have to say is that even with a breather filter installed i still had signifigant oily build up in my skunk2 intake manifold after only maybe 8k miles.....
this was just leaving the line that goes into the intake and elimintaing the one that goes directly into the manifold...
the stock manifold was really oily when i pulled it after 13k miles

Provided you have a PCV system on your car the oil catch can will be installed between that and your IM. It will catch the little blowby goes into your IM and gunks it up. Not really neccesary on an NA car unless you are really concerned about the negative effects of oil in your combustion chambers. On FI engines this is of concern.
If you have a high performance NA car with like 11:1 and up CR, then you wouldn't want oil in your cylinders to lower your octane rating.

I am still NA and every oil change I drain between 1/2 and 1/4 cup of crap out of my catch can. I think it is worth installing. But forget that overpriced Endyn stuff. Get a Moroso catch can and follow BSQ's instructions.

I have an all motor car and i have a catch can, i know i didn't NEED it but greddy catch can LOOKS good and they only cost $80 which isn't TOO much when u think about it. If i run clean and have a nicer engine bay i don't see y not.

Do they REALLY need them. No.
Will they benefit from them. YES.

My answer: No.
Yes, a catch-can on a NA engine will catch crap from crankcase venting.
But, a functioning PCV system should allow "clean" burning of these vapors without any ill affects. We are not talking about a lot of oil/vapors being consumed per engine revolution to cause any concern. If the PCV system is clogged, the mist-filled crankcase pressure waves will vent through the valve cover breather tube depositing the nasty oil everywhere downstream.
As far as I know, the forced induction group are the ones that benefit the most from a catch-can. The intake manifold, which was under vacuum while N/A, is now under pressure during boost. The PCV won't work under boost and shuts closed. Also, with higher vacuum in the intake, oil mist is sucked through the valve cover breather tube and into the intake leading to the supercharger/turbo inards(Nasty!). Plugging the hose and adding a breather filter to the valve cover just sends the fumes into the engine bay (smelly!). The catch-can with modified PVC system allows the vapors to dump into the can and hopefully most the nasty stuff is baffled and retained. This allows both the valve cover and intake, from filter to manifold, to stay clean.
If the PCV valve is clogged up, everything else in the system will be just as nasty. This includes the hoses and the oil separator on the back of the crankcase. They should be replaced or cleaned as well.
I have spent way too much time typing this up.

For everyone out there and about catch can:
i think it's worth it.. i have a N/A it does filter out alot of Oil.
it's only $100 it's differently worth the money to invest in it if u care about what goes into your motor.
any one want Closer pics of how it filter or how it helps IM me i'll post pic because im to lazy to take some. Only do it if ppls are interested.
