Icon2 Body Models Classification for 3D Tuning

hey all, i need some help understanding how Honda classifies car body submodel. Basically im not honda driver but we are building 3d software visualizer to preview rims body kits etc. Im trying to put together proper database of models. In Mercedes for instance W210 can have S500, S430, S350 etc. So same chassis but different models. Is it the same for honda acura? Caz 1st thing comes to my mind is Honda Civic, Honda Accord, but i suspect there some additional modifications?

Hopefully some one can give me some more info?

PS: Im posting to Honda forum because we have very big amount of request to add Hondas to our tuning software

Chassis distinctions are made using the 4th, 5th, and 6th placeholders in the vehicle's VIN number.

Google search is by far the easiest method.

googled a bit now more confused, some code seam to have same bidy but different numbers

EX: EJ6 and EJ7 seam the same to me, but they both belong to Generation 6 of Honda Civic? So would be more appropriate to generalize whole generation as same body style?

Here's a list. The area where the car was made also plays a part in the chasis code. Hope this helps.

tnx for the link, that site has better arranged data then what i found. But i still have same amount of questions.
So for example CR-X happened to be one of models we already have (you can see what we doing)

https://3dtuning.tempgp.com/?carid=38&model=CR-X

Now, my questions comes, what actuall modification can fall under same body. Based on link posted and photo they have, i would interpret that our model and picture posted covers following body code

AE5, AF5, AS5, EC1, ED8, ED9, EF7, EF8

Am i wrong?

I'm not as familiar with the CRX body styles, but I can try to explain in the 96-00 body style Civics.

One thing to consider is that even though the USDM Civics may have the same chasis code (ej6), doesn't mean that the body styles are the same. For example, for the ej6's, the front end changes slightly from 1996-1998 models to the 1999-2000. Unfortunately, I think this would mean that you would have further investigate not only chasis codes, but which years includes slight changes in the body style within that code.

Hope that was somewhat easy to follow. I'm on my phone and will try to give you more details later.

Wikipedia would also help you further... or this guy: http://www.preludepower.com/forums/s...d.php?t=320963

So, two things I noticed with your site...

Wheal? Do you mean wheel?
Rims? Do you mean wheels?

Here's a picture of some rims for you: http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC07301.jpg

And, here's a picture of wheels: http://jonsibal.com/newBBS.jpg

tnx for pointing out spelling error we noticed them too and will fix them rim and wheel we mix just as people may use different words for the same thing so we want to keep site search engine friendly too.

As to link, i like ho it is formatted still leaves me with question is there is significant change between body codes that are in same model same generation
And person who posted that table says that 75 more pages to be posted for Civics

OK, OP. I love your little site so I am going to try to help you as much as I can.

I think you need to step back a little here and not get bogged in the details of all the chassis codes, etc.

For your purposes I suspect you are interested in body *types* available (Sedan, hatchback, coupe, etc.), and how these change year-to-year when the model is redesigned for a new generation. A lot of the chassis "codes" that people have pointed out already in this thread - a two-letter & one-number code like "EG6" or "EH3" - will be variations on a theme. For example, the 1992-95 Civic hatchback has a number of different chassis codes: EG4, EG5, EG6, EH2, EH3, but all have a near-identical outward appearance. The codes moreover are related to trim level and manufacturing location, but there is really no hard rule.

Possibly to give you an idea of when the models are redesigned, Wikipedia will be a good start for a resource. ie., This page for the Civic breaks down the series by generation, and this will tell you when the body shape changes for your 3D modelling.

tnx
so can ai assume that we have something like this:

1s gen Sedan, hatchback, coupe
2nd gen Sedan, hatchback, coupe
....
6th gen Sedan, hatchback, coupe

and same thing for other models like Accord, CRV, and everything else Honda had manufactured?

No. For each model of each generation you'll need to figure out if there's a sedan version, coupe, estate wagon, hatchback, kammback, fastback, liftback, targa, convertible, roadster, SUV, etc.
