Default Recommended mileage to change clutch?

Dear Experts,

I have a 1996 Honda Accord 5 speed with 231K miles on it now.

1)
At what mileage is the recommended time to change the clutch?
I can't see it in the user's manual.
Although the manual has recommended mileage to change the timing belt, etc.

2)
Or, in your experience, at how many miles have you repaired clutches, or,
replaced your own clutch?

Thanks a lot!

You change the clutch when it needs to be changed. Mileage does not warrant a change, wear does.

Hey Mike,

So, in your experience, at how many miles have you seen the clutch wear out,
and need to be changed?

Thanks

It all depends on how the person drives.

^This.

I've known people drive for ~200K miles on the same clutch with no issues, I've also known people who have to replace their clutch every other oil change.

As long as you don't dump the clutch or excessively slip the clutch, it will last a long time.

I cannot recall ever having to change the clutch, with the exception of a used car we purchased and the PO 'warned' us about how the clutch wore out quickly. Turns out he just didn't know how to drive, new clutch/pressure plate/flywheel(all were overheated/cracked) and the car was fine.

never had to change a clutch. but I agree with the other posts change it when it wears out. My 79 Spitfire still has the factory clutch so it's 35 years old and still works fine.

Reason to ask being:

231K miles now and still the original clutch
clutch hydraulics (master and/or slave cylinder) are suddenly no good

Does it make sense to overhaul the clutch (new plate, bearings, grind flywheel),
in addition to fixing the hydraulics?

Thanks a lot

My clutch slave cylinder went out 3 times between 120-130k miles. I now have 280k miles and it has yet to go out again. I think I had a bad part a few times. No other problems with the master cylinder or anything.

The clutch goes out when it goes out.

personally I have had to change my clutch once, but I was rebuilding the engine so I had everything out and open so I decided to do it while I had it out and the mileage on it was 150k. Did it absolutely need to be done? No. I could have waited another 50k miles but why wait and go through all the trouble when everything was out and exposed in my case? It made sense for me.

Personally, if it is still working and not overly worn or nearly needing replacement due to excessive wear, why replace it? waste of money in my opinion.
