Default Where to start?

I just bought a 98 accord this weekend
it's a 5 speed MT one that has been sitting outside for the past year. At this point it doesn't start because of a dead battery. Before I replace the battery and start it again what should I do ahead, including preventative maintenance and stuff that should be checked and or done because it was outside for a year.
PS. it has about 2 liters of fuel In it since it was last started and I do not know if the fuel was stabilized

Me, I would pull the plugs add a bit of oil into the cyl and spin the engine over a few times before trying to start it.

For the fuel, you could add some fresh gas to what is in there already....can't remember if the 6th gens still had the drain bolt for the fuel tank.

Thnx. Is there anything else I got to worry about including brake lines, fuel lines or clogged injectors?

i would drain and replace the engine oil and filter before cranking it over. Right now the crud is in the oil pan no use pumping it through the motor. Then add oil to the cylinders as suggested. This is just enough to lubricate the cylinders and rings and prevent dry movement.

no need worrying about brakes until you get it running. And once you try and start it you will know if the injectors are clogged.

Eventually you will need to change every fluid in the car. With the exception of coolant all of them have picked up moisture from sitting.

Yeah, a year isn't too bad. Put a battery in it and it will probably start.

It is when they get 4 or 5 plus years that they really have significant issues from sitting.

Get it running and see if you have a good car, motor and transaxle before dumping a lot of maintenance money in it.

Then change oil
All the filters
Brake fluid
Check everything out you know the usual suspects.

Thnx a lot to everyone for the advice, greatly appreciated. Btw I found out that it has a broken pcv valve, do I need to replace it before starting or can it start it and run it just long enough to see if its worth repairing

Don't worry with the PCV right now, get it started. Now the PCV will cause a strange idle once the car is warm/normal op temp.
