Rebuilt D15B7 with a teething problem
Hi all, I've been searching the forums and cant seem to find the exact symptoms to what ive got. I recently rebuilt the entire engine (D15B7) everything went bril, I had the cylinders honed new piston rings, bearings etc... and the head overhauled wont go into to much detail on that, ive mounted the engine back in, everything wired up as it should be, all timed up correctly.
However when it idles I get a small splutter almost like a misfire but not quite as drastic, the car never cuts out dies and it runs fine, ive only done 50miles on the rebuild and haven't taken it past 3000rpm yet as I want to get it running right first. If I start the car in the evenings which I sometimes do, the initial start up has a noise similar to 'pinging' or 'spark knock'.
Now before I go replacing sensors and things like that I'm just after some input in trying to diagnose the problem, my only lead that I'm thinking of is perhaps the ignition timing is out, i've ordered a new distributor cap and rotor arm too that was going to be where I start first.
Any help or input is much appreciated guys, thanks in advance. :D

misfire? Ignition issue or fuel issue. Are you using the proper fuel injectors? Are your mechanical timing set properly? Ignition timing set?
If you haven't taken it past 3k, safe bet you haven't taken it to heavy load. You've already failed at the engine break-in, so now you get to deal with and fix the problems caused by that.
Get a spark tester, and tell us what color you have on all four wires.
Get a fuel pressure tester, and tell us what pressure you have as properly measured at the filter
Get a compression tester, and tell us what your dry and wet numbers are across all four cylinders.
