So i recently plugged the heater outlet on the head with the rocker arm plug, and blocked off the rear heater hose line deleted the heater core. I was wondering if the temps should be right under the middle mark? before the bypass it would usually sit about a quarter before the middle mark. i've completely bled the cooling system out so i no theres no air trapped. new tstat, all new hoses and clamps with oem type 2 coolant.
Sounds like you still have air in system bleed all hoses you can and look for and bleeder plugs you could have missed ,be sure thermostat is open,Test drive and replete ,good luck,

You mentioned new thermostat, so I assume that the old one was opened too early and that's why gauge reads lower before.

99 civic si cluster, 97 gsr swap, 96 honda civic hatchback.
there was nothing wrong with the thermostat i just figured it was time to change it since i was bypassing the heater core and doing misc maintenance.
so you think its right that it sits one line under middle?

Ok. In pic what I posted, gauge reads normal. It is from my own car (2000 EK4, stock cluster, B18C6), in this postion logged temp (from ecu) is ~90°C/ 194°F.

is that during idle? i checked my temps if i hold the idle at around 4k-5k its around 205° but just idling its around 180-190ish
Typically yes, somewhere around that. Mostly depending circumstances. 96°C/205°F isn't unforeseen either (warm day, hard driving, dyno etc. )
