Icon2 2002 CRV VTEC solenoid replacement

Hey all!

I was referred to this forum from /r/honda and am in need of some guidance.

I'm a recent owner of a 2002 CRV and it popped a P1259 code. Google led me to a few possible answers. I had the oil changed a day after the maintenance light came on, but before I knew what it was. (Hadn't had time to plug it into my OBDII reader)

Google said it could have been low oil so I cleared the error and waited for it to come back. A few minutes into the drive it came back on so I'm going to assume it's not oil levels. (Unless I need to wait longer for the oil to circulate through the engine? I can always re-erase it and see if it comes back a third time.)

At any rate, I probably won't be able to change the VTEC solenoid before I have to drive it 400 miles and am wondering how critical that component is. It seems like a performance/economy enhancement feature that isn't absolutely necessary for the car to run properly.

All that to say, what should I do?

Thanks!
Anthony
