Cold running engine temperature warranty?
Could this be a warranty issue for the following reason?
Block coolant passages crack internally and allow for excessive internal coolant flows? Please post your thoughts on this
2007 1.8 liter that I have owned since 2008. It always warmed up fast and had good heat even on cold days of 10 F. This winter it started running cold. If I start it in the morning and let it run for 30 min to defrost windows the gauge is pinned on cold, no heat with 20 F ambient temp. Upper and lower rad hoses are cold, no flow to the rad. Against all common sense I replaced the thermostat with a jobber from NAPA. No change. Honda told me that jobber t/stats don't work on Honda engines. I bought a OEM Honda t/stat and installed it, No Change. After driving the car for 30 min. I checked the block temp with an accurate digital thermometer. 158 F. Rad hoses cold. rrrrr no heat. t/stat is rated at 180 F. and not even opening...
COULD THIS BE WARRANTY? Honda admits that this engine has casting crack issues and is still covered on mine until 2015. Could this be the reason for cold temperatures? Internal passages allow excessive coolant flow? Something has let go internally on mine, orface? check valve? or internal block cracks? or what?
Help please if anyone has a 1.8 liter SOHC I-VTEC coolant flow schematic please post it...... (Honda manufacturing engineer) I have used these from other engine manufactures and are very helpful in locating difficult coolant problems.
I am a red seal ticketed mechanic with 30yrs experience and have seen some pretty strange stuff with engines ............
