Have you checked the fluid in the abs unit/reservoir. Are there any leaks from the unit.

Did you try bleeding the abs unit.....warning, the fluid is under high pressure.

Replace the $1.88 accumulator O-ring. That should take care of the code. Requires removal of the ABS unit (to access bolts for accumulator underneath).

With a tube to the bleed valve to a container then open the valve refill and start over. Just make sure to get clear fluid before stopping.

1-8 may be caused by...
  • Accumulator gas leakage.(goldish cylinder mounted to ABS unit)
  • Changed relief valve set pressure.
  • Rear outlet solenoid valve late to close.
  • Changed pressure switch set pressure.

Check Accumulator relief plug, from the factory there will be sealant on it.

Is the plug OK?

No. Replace Accumulator.

Yes. Start engine and monitor ABS lamp until it goes off, then turn off engine, repeat 10 more times.

Does the the ABS light go off after starting?

Yes.
  • Intermittent failure, system is OK.
  • Replace modulator if symptom reappears.

No. Confirm ABS code.

Is Code 1-8 present?

No. Follow appropriate trouble shooting for 1-8.

Troubleshooting.

1-8 may also be caused from low temperatures.
If you live in a very cold area, or the car is parked in a very cold area, this may be the cause of the code.

Pressure switch is initially OFF. Pump turns on, pressure switch is activated to turn ON signal, then solenoid valve is activated momentarily.
Code is activated if the pressure switches from ON to OFF.

Yes. Replace Modulator unit.
  • Accumulator gas leakage.
  • Relief valve set pressure out of spec.
  • Rear outlet solenoid valve late to close.
  • Pressure switch set pressure out of spec.
