I did some pretty heavy searching and no one had the same problem as me.
It is a 97 Honda Accord 5 speed manual and occasionally when I drive it there will be a pretty strong thumping from the front. It seems to be a big problem when it is cold or on long trips. It doesn't matter if I am turning or going strait it will still thump. Today after coming back from skiing (so cold and a long trip) I had a chance to feel it coasting so even without the transmission connected to the engine. It is worse when I am changing speed especially accelerating; but if the weight of the car wants to pull the engine like down a hill it still exists. It has even led to some pretty concerning front end shakes, today even while going up a slope and flooring it in 5th and not accelerating it started to shake. To make things weird is that it happens in all gears and the frequency of the thumping is related to speed but unrelated to gear Any ideas?

 

Likely candidates are the engine mounts or the lower control arms bushings but could also be your sway bar link bushings. You just need to get the wheels off and get in there and look at what's going on. If you want, take some really high quality up close pics and let us see.

 

Have you eliminated the tires as the source of your problem? Sometimes you can get a bubble on the tire tread and get a thump with every rotation.

 

Might be an axle binding, engine mount, anything in the front. Hell if its shaking you think you might want to get it off the ground and check for loose parts? haha
