Just purchased a 99 accord ex and though it was not doing it when I took possession, when I got home it was beeping from what seems like under the car. It is a short, low volume digital sounding beep about every 5 seconds or so.

I've tried key in, key out, unlock and lock, lock and unlock. The car has an aftermarket stereo and I don't know if that screws up the factory anti-theft? Anyone got ideas as to what this could be and how to shut it off?

 

find out where it's coming from, where did this car come from, that sounds like one of the GPS trackers that the finance company puts in, to shut off the car and track it, they will make an annoying beeping sound when a payment is missed

 

Car was purchased from a cadillac dealer. I paid by check. I'm gonna get under the car and see if I can find the exact source. It has been raining here and did not want to crawl under it yesterday..

 

if it had a tracker/disabler and someone bypassed it, it would have started beeping. Maby it was a repo

haha what an interesting thing. And its not the key ignition stuck and beeping or thinking the door is stuck open? One of my cars came from a dealer who forgot to remove the lot security feature, it just has a red flashing light at the bottom of the kick panel.

 

They specifically told me it was not a repo, but when I called them about the beeping noise it miraculously stopped about an hour afterwards... :-)..LOL!

 

The car may not be a repo; but, there may be a GPS tracking device there. It may be used if somebody stole the car off their lot, or after the car was sold to track deadbeat borrowers, or if your check had bounced.

 

my guess is they tracked and logged a few of your destinations incase you skip on them they know what other address to hit as well. is it a lease? buy cash? are you on a payment plan? i wouldn't want that thing on my car anyways. i would considerate some type of wire tap even tho they can't hear your conversations or w/e

 

you could go to a car toys or something and have them check it out. Im sure they could find and remove it if its what were all thinking

 

Was thinking of doing just that, but when I called the dealer to find out if they had some kind of tracker or if it was a repo, they said "no" but the beeping stopped about an hour later... coincidence??? maybe not
