core end tank material

Default core end tank material

am making some end tanks for intercooler core, was wondering what type of material should i use.

typically use 1/8" 6061

If you plan on braking the tanks, 5052 would be my recommendation.

x2 ^^^ 5052 is bendable

6061 will break when you bend it.

if you go under the minimum bend allowance, yes...fabrication/engineering 101

i've used .063 6061 for the past 4-5 years with success. it rolls and bends without any issues. but 5052 is recommended for bending.

You can also anneal your 6061 before bending it to remove the T6 temper which is why it sucks to bend.

When you weld it together the T6 temper goes away at the joints anyway.

it also helps if you do need to bend it, to go against the grain!
