Icon2 Bargain/universal mufflers?

Caught off guard by some corrosion on my muffler last week. I wasn't paying attention to it until I was on the highway and thought everything sounded louded than usual.. this is a '89 Civic hatch.

I now have exhaust leaks on both sides of the muffler, right where the exhaust enters and leaves. Looks like the muffler will just fall right off if I don't do something soon

Advance has Walker universal mufflers that should fit my Civic. Has anyone used these? At $35 the price is right, but I'm not sure how well it will fit. Is it something I can do with a friend and a welder?

I would be really tempted to throw an aftermarket one on there if you are going to go through the trouble of cutting something off and welding a new one on there.

^^ you get the walker direct replacement part hes talking about buying is aftermarket right??

The walker will fit perfect, might not even require any welding, it will probably be one piece from the connection point at the rear lower control arm and to the tip. Highly suggest picking up a can of high temp BBQ paint in silver or black for $5 (your prefernce obviously) give the new assmebly a quick 2 coats of paint before hand and get MANY more years out of it before it rusts

Should have clarified . . . "aftermarket" as in a performance-oriented brand not some private label OEM muffler like Walker.

Magnaflow/dynomax/etc.

direct fit Walker replacement is $33 + shipping from Rockauto.

the Walker universal #17897 will fit just as well and is available from Summitracing for $19.97 + shipping. it will require clamps and/or welding to install.

unless you plan on replacing the whole system to accommodate larger diameter tubing, performance mufflers - even budget minded ones (like Jones "Full Boar") would not be worth the extra cost. easily double the price of the two I've listed above.
