I replaced my fuel lines a few weeks ago in my em1 and now I get a faint gas smell after the car has been running for a while. I feel like its coming from the back by the filler neck not really underneath the car. I crawled under it and checked there are no drips or leaks. Any ideas? Ive done this a few times over the years with no lingering gas smell

 

Why did you replace the fuel lines? And was there a smell before?

 

no prior smell.

they were rusting out. the brake lines were starting to weep. winters in the northeast are not kind to 14 year old cars

 

You replaced all pressurized fuel lines? Or just certain ones?

Did you mess with any of the EVAP system hoses?

 

do you notice the smell more when you fill the tank (completely)?

 

No odor difference with varying fuel levels. Everything hooked back up oem. Since I dont smell it when it's not running or when I first turn it on I feel like it may have something to do with the purge valve those solenoids on the top drivers side of the tank maybe sticking open. Anyone know if that stuff would throw a code? What about obd1 code? Im running the car on Neptune

 

i had this problem with my ej1. it eventually went away

 

well this is still going on and now its becoming an issue. i heat my garage during the winter with a kerosene heater and when i park the car in there it gets the gas smell going good making me uncomfortable...

i was under there the other day. i hooked everything up just as my other 2000 civic is hooked up.

cant find any visible leaks or wet spots, even with the tank full.

i replaced the gas cap with a known good one no changes.

2 questions i have now - one of the tiny vacuum hoses from one of the evap sensors on the tank goes to a small barb in the framerail. what if i plug that? excess tank pressure?

- the hose that comes off the charcoal canister is just vented to open air (no smell from it though). the car runs obd1 and i dont think they have a evap purge solenoid so i worry it would stay closed if i hooked it to the solenoid on the top of the intake manifold. what if i plumb that into the intake tube to get some pull and maybe pull those vapors from the tank. would it create vacuum in the tank and **** something up?

any and all help is appreciated, its not getting and warmer outside and i really dont want to drop the tank again and go from there

 

If you're saying that the EVAP line that goes to the tank is open, then that would cause a slight gas smell.


I removed the EVAP canister and plugged all the lines when I had a B16 in an EG. I don't remember any gas odor under the hood.



An I wouldn't run any of the lines to the intake manifold.

 

final update for those who run into this searching in the future.

it was a loose hose. on the top rear of the gas tank are some hard plastic lines that go to the purge solenoid on the tank. the one line has a small section of soft hose that goes to the small 3rd hardline off the gas tank filler neck. the softline to plastic hardline connection was loose. i put a tighter hose on it and gave a good tighten with a hoseclamp. its been about 3 weeks i havent smelled it since.

I know this is an old thread but I have simillar problem. I have a 2008 Civic DX. When I accelerate or backup to the driveway I smell faint fuel smell through the air vents. There are no visible fuel leaks and no smell except for the above. I suspect the fuel injector O rings or hose going to the charcoal canister. Any suggestions where to start?
